The Christmas List

It's been years since I last compiled a list of what I wanted for Christmas; this is mostly for the family that asks every year only to be disappointed when "I don't know." I'll be updating it every so often, click on the link on the right to get back to this page in the future.

Page France's Hello, Dear Wind &
The Tomato Morning EP combo - link

Hello, Dear Wind is one of my very favorite records, but I've lost the mp3s I bought on emusic last year. The Tomato Morning EP is brand-new-web-only, and they've got a combo deal for both.

Marcel Dzama's The Berlin Years - link

Marcel Dzama has changed everything we know about art that involves alligators and men in bear costumes holding guns. Dzama is from Winnipeg, and his work shows frequently in New York and on Beck’s album covers. Sometimes he paints with root beer.

This book—it’s not even a book at all, really—is an envelope with thirty-two loose-leaf prints good enough to frame plus a scrapbook plus an insert card plus an intro by Sarah Vowell.

Chris Adrian's The Children's Hospital - link

A hospital is preserved, afloat, after the Earth is flooded beneath seven miles of water. Inside, assailed by mysterious forces, doctors and patients are left to remember the world they’ve lost and to imagine one to come. At the center, a young medical student finds herself gifted with strange powers and a frightening destiny. Simultaneously epic and intimate, wildly imaginative and unexpectedly relevant, The Children’s Hospital is a work of stunning scope, mesmerizing detail, and wrenching emotion.

Turkey Trot

I wish I had done this. My foot probably wouldn't make it, but it would be fun. I saw a million people with Turkey Trot race numbers at the farmers market yesterday morning, from little kids to racer-types to old people. I fit in there somewhere.

Two and a half days until the most spectacular event of the year.

The Silicon Valley A's

Worst news ever? The Oakland A's, my Oakland A's, are moving to Fremont. Fucking Fremont. Unbelievable. To Cisco Field, which will be the most un-baseball (read: nerdiest) ballpark ever. This is a shame.

In Keeping with Form

My head is spinning--surreal poem due tomorrow (today) at 8am, which I began at 8pm. These things aren't quick.

"The Dinner-Guest"

I split myself in two on the chesterfield
A crowd of eyes sopped in blood and wine
Then rolled, out to mingle in the garden.

Pooling, I seep to the garden
Crimson crusting the collar of my chesterfield--
The gar
çon will not pour my wine.

But I've had only so much wine
That I lap softly in the garden,
Dissipating with the smoke of my last Chesterfield.

Ignore the fool on the chesterfield, we will take wine in the garden.

It's called a tritina, like a sestina for dumb kids.

The Baby of Love

I had a dog for the weekend! We want to keep her.

How about a big round of applause for Mom & Dad? And everything they do for me? My favorite people, and a wonderful weekend.

BS: i feel like part of being a blogger is that loneliness stays with you in real life
BS: you have lonely parties with friends
DLIC: it's true
DLIC: i know lots of people who try to start blogs
DLIC: but are then too social in real life
DLIC: so the blogs don't work
